Retired career Police Officer. Served as a constable at the famous Cannon Row Police Station and with the Westminster Crime Squad at Great Scotland Yard.

Served as a community constable and sergeant at Oxford’s St Aldate’s Police Station, made famous through the works of Colin Dexter and the Morse series of books and Television series; thus was often described by colleagues and cognoscenti of ‘Morse’ as the real Sergeant Lewis.

As an operational police officer had many interesting and amusing patrol experiences, some involving members of the royal family and some more frightening than funny including policing central London during the IRA ‘Mainland Campaign’ of 1974-1977 and the ‘Toxteth Riots.’

Was a member of the Commonwealth Community Policing Team in South Africa after the 1994 elections and helped to transform the policing operation to the community based policing service exiting there today.Led the successful ‘UK-China 400-An Exchange of Future Leaders’ programme for the British Council 2007-2009 where 400 hundred young UK community leaders exchanged places with Chinese counterparts in a rolling three year process. Has led on youth programmes around the world.

He lectures and teaches in various policing subjects worldwide.

David was the 1997 Fulbright Fellow in Policing Studies at the Pennsylvania State University, USA.

In his spare time David is a writer and poet.
