KIM HUNTER, DETECTIVE SUPERINTENDENT (RTD) 30 YEARS POLICE EXPERIENCE

 

Kim Hunter joined Durham Constabulary aged 22 in 1977. He was promoted to uniform Inspector for 18 months before securing a team leaders role with the Regional Crime Squad. He led major investigations in to serious and organised crime groups including those engaged in trafficking drugs and guns, as well as conspiracy to commit robbery and murder. His experience in targeting serious and organised criminality led to him eventually to the position of Head of NCIS North East where he led a team of detectives, analysts and other specialists focusing on complex intelligence operations utilizing a variety of covert (undercover) techniques. He returned to Durham as the Crime Manager for Durham City and Chester Le Street for 3 years before taking charge of the Force Community Safety Branch focusing on social and situational crime prevention and diversity. In 2001 he was selected as a Detective Supt. to HMIC, Crime Team, London.  Spending 6 years in HMIC he had specific responsibility for Serious and Organised Crime, Special Branch and Ports policing, Intelligence and Covert techniques.  During this period he conducted a number of high profile inspections leading to major changes in UK policing. Retiring in 2007 he immediately took up a position in the Middle East advising a police force on the development and implementation of 'intelligence led' policing where he remained until 'semi-retirement' in May 2013. Kim is now registered as a consultant with a number of companies that advise on an international scale.
