NEIL HENSON (RETIRED POLICE OFFICER) - METROPOLITAN POLICE U.K.

 

Neil retired in 2013 after 30 years exemplary service. His first 15 years was as a Response and Public Order officer, a Recruit Instructor and a Community Sergeant in Central London. For the next 15 years Neil was a Problem Solving Specialist working at New Scotland Yard. He provided conventional and unconventional training and advice and received a number of Metropolitan Police commendations for his expertise in using Problem Solving to reduce crime and disorder problems across London. Neil won a UK Home Office award for Problem Solving and was invited to speak at the International Problem Oriented Police Conferences in San Diego 2003 and Charlotte in 2004 and 2005. Further US involvement ensued by giving support to Kentucky Police officers, resulting in Neil being made an Honorary Kentucky Colonel. His presentations gained the reputation of being informative and highly entertaining. He spoke at the English, Scottish and International Conferences on Problem Solving and Policing; the 2012 Surrey Police conference; the 2008 Kentucky Police Chiefs Convention and the 2006 Nordic Problem Solving Symposium. He was credited by the Office of Community Oriented Policing US Department of Justice; the UK Government Innovation Department and referenced in the “Crime Opportunity Profiling of Streets” report on drug markets. He is the author of the book: “Who shares your problem?” and writes articles for a Crime Prevention website which has 25,000 visits a month. Neil now provides Problem Solving and Crime Reduction training across the UK and still acts as a consultant for the Metropolitan Police.
