PETER RICHARDSON POLICE OFFICER WITH 30 YEARS EXPERIENCE

I was a serving police officer for 30 years (1978- 2008) during which time I worked in many different police roles, which I like to share with interested parties. I started my police career with Northumbria police at 20years old after having served an apprenticeship as carpenter. I have spent the majority of police career on the streets policing at grass roots level in uniform. (where I believe, my heart in policing lay) I did how ever follow the advice of my superior officers and specialized, in many police departments, such as plain clothes investigation squads, vice, & and crime enquiry teams. I also served as a marine police officer policing the rivers, waterways, and 70 miles of coastline, working closely with customs & excise, H.M. immigration ports authorities, RNLI and Air Sea Rescue. However despite finding specials role very rewarding and interesting I always had a personal desire to return to uniformed police duties, policing the streets. During my police career I policed many industrial disputes including, Fires service strikes, ambulance service strikes, prison officers strikes, The miners strike of 1984-84 as well as the inner city riots of the 1980s & 1990s serving as an operational uniformed officer “At the sharp end”. After passing my police promotion exams, I was seconded to one of the Home Office national police training centers, where for 3 years I was given the opportunity to use, and pass on my skills, experience and expertise as an operational police officer to train hundreds of police recruits from 9 feeder police forces. Since retiring from the police service in 2008 I have worked on a number of contracts delivering training programmes for: - Local colleges and local authorities, and in HMP Prisons, and young offenders services. I look forward to sharing my police experiences with everyone.
